For the last couple of years I've been a proud member of the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy, I have decided not to renew my membership this year for one reason. Whilst I respect the scientific ethos of the CPP, its adherence to only presenting meetings and education opportunities in London has resulted in me paying for a limited service, as I have no interested to travel across the country multiple times a year.
I have also been a proud member of the Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners, again I'm not renewing my membership to the URHP. This saddens me more, as they are a genuine lovely and friendly group of very different and distinct, yet talented herbalists.
However, I've thought long and hard about what I need, where I want my career to go (and its benefit to my patients), and what I can provide to a professional association. With this in mind I need to streamline my membership to concentrate on one organisation which covers my herbalist practice, my style of medicine and therapy, and my medical belief (from cutting-edge pure reductionist medicine through to 19c physiomedical tissue states). The association must also offer help, advice, education (in the Midlands and the North), online opportunities and a solid, friendly structure.
Neither of the above professional association can truly offer this in my opinion.
So I have decided to join the worlds oldest western herbal medicine professional association, started in the north of England (horrahh) and which potentially can provide for all my needs, yes it's nearly as expensive as the other two associations combined, however, if it provides more goodies and opportunities then its better spent money.
So from May 2019 I will be a proud member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalism (NIMH), and lets see where we travel xx
