People have, on occasion, asked why it costs £80 to see me. Well I could say because I have two university degrees (shout out to Chester and Lincoln), two decades of varied healthcare experience, etc. Or I could tell you how it includes two or four weeks herbal tinctures (can be other treatments), with the majority of the herbs being fresh, organic made tinctures. Or maybe that I am visiting you twice, once for the consultation and again to drop off the medication.
However, I want to talk about the other hidden expense of extra time used to work through, your symptoms, signs, history etc to pinpoint which herbs, nutrients, lifestyle changes and other treatments will benefit you (not your condition template) but YOU. For example, today I'm reading up on age and lifestyle based mitochondrial changes and then cross-referencing this with stacks of herbal medicine sources to chose one or two herbs for a lethargic patient's medicine.
Now this time isn't charged to the patient, and not every patient or repeat consultation requires this level of information delving, and often the knowledge from patient 1 will benefit patient 8 and 12 with minimal top-ups. But isn't it refreshing that its not just you that might be researching your condition through the prism of your symptoms, history, feelings, etc.
