The Derbyshire Community Herbalist is
Karl Bedson BSc (Uni of Lincoln - First Class Hons) RGN MNIMH
Registered Medical Herbalist/ Registered Nurse Practitioner
I'm (Karl) is a registered Medical Herbalist with the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and a registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. I am a married father of two teenage girls and a health professional for well over two decades, both within the NHS and in private practice, with a stake in both Orthodox and Herbal Medicine, as well as advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques such as Physiomedical Tissue States, cutting edge Autonomic Nervous System dysfunction, Blood Stasis, etc.

After a hard-working career within the NHS, both in England and Scotland, as well as with Marie Curie Cancer care, specialising in triage, wound-care, community and palliative health, before peaking as a Nurse Practitioner with NHS24. I discovered Herbal Medicine use whilst a District Nurse within Royal Deeside (Aberdeenshire), observing a Ballater GP suggest its use for some Balmoral Estate residents, and gaining results rarely witnessed in all my nursing years. All whilst farming my smallholding, growing herbs, vegetables and farming sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks in an open plan, organic and sustainable way.

After moving south to Derbyshire, I created a award winning herbal skincare range and went on to gain a first-class honours degree in Herbal Medicine at the University of Lincoln. My Medical Herbalism degree included such subjects as; anatomy and physiology, medical history, philosophy, clinical practice, research, pathophysiology, biochemistry, nutrition, phytochemistry, pharmacy, psychology and lots and lots of herbal therapeutics. Along with the same basic clinical skills every doctor is taught and 500+ hours of herbal medicine clinical practice. Always supported by my decades of nursing knowledge, bedside manner, skills and experience.

I started and run a successful Derbyshire practice, utilising skills and traits from both his varied nursing roles and medical herbalism, by treating all my patients at my beautiful 17th century Bakewell clinic, The Brambles Herbal Medicine Practice, Bagshaw Hill, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1DL, 01629 812578, within their own home or via online Zoom appointments. I diagnose using orthodox clinical diagnostic skills, cutting edge Autonomic Nervous System analysis and foundational physiomedical tissue states, blood stasis, etc, to give a full holistic assessment before treating with herbs chosen for every level of health imbalances, illnesses and maximising health potential, along with nutritional and lifestyle advice.

I'm interested in and specialise in chronic conditions, diabetes, stress concerns, mental health, gut health, circulation, wound care, men’s problems, nervous conditions, skin health, gut concerns, grief, and those weird sets of symptoms that defy a diagnosis. However, if you have a concern, feel unfulfilled by your 'normal treatments', fed up with your current state of health or want to improve your resistance to future diseases/ issues, then contact me.

I regularly give talks and self-help instruction to support groups and undertakes herb walks. I'm a Higher Education lecturer for the worlds only recognised degree in western medical herbalism, the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Herbalism, where I have the honour of teaching many subjects to incredible students who travel from all over the world to Lincoln, though my main subjects are History, Philosophy and Evidence, Anatomy and Physiology, Advanced Herbal Therapeutics and Clinical skills.
